WhyWild?
Growing fruit isn’t like growing veggies…

Especially in certain areas of the United States, fruit cultivation poses a host of challenges foreign to the vegetable gardener–but its joys are equally unique. Successful home orchardists must hone their practices carefully.

Why do trees in the wild continue to thrive year after year with minimal diseases and pests? Why do wild grapes, wild persimmons, and wild pawpaws succeed in their struggle for survival, while our peaches and plums flounder?

One goal of MyWildOrchard is to look at Creation–look at nature–look at the wild counterparts to the fruit we try to grow–and apply what we learn to our home orchards. By learning from the wild and applying what we learn to our orchard ventures, we can equip ourselves with the knowledge, materials, and skills we need for a fruitful home orchard.
